Visit from ASDA

This week we had a visit from Suzy Ramsbottom, Community Champion at Asda Hessle Road. She came to make some delicious fruit smoothies with us as part of our Health and Fitness theme for this term.

Cooker Challenge

Tonight the Scouts attempted to find out which was the most effective cooking method we had in the Scout den. Things to take in to account were; time to boil, ease of use & time to set up. Best of all we all boiled an egg.

Bronze Chief Scout Award

A massive well done to Connor on achieving his Bronze Chief Scout Award! He put in a lot of hard work to gain all of his challenge badges which enabled him to achieve the award. He is the first Hessle Beaver to get the award but hopefully won’t be the last!

Beaver Show and Tell

During this term, as part of their Health and Fitness Badge, Beavers are telling us about the different sports and activities they take part in.  We have had talks on swimming, judo, tennis, football, dancing, athletics and kayaking so far.

The Deep Sleep Over Jan 2014

Tues 17 Dec so Arapahos annual Christmas party. The theme of the party was Christmas jumpers. All Cubs & leaders joined in the fun & games with the parents supplying a buffet & joining the Cubs at the end of the evening

Beaver Christmas Party

Wednesday 18 December was our last colony night before Christmas.  We had a party with lots of fun games and food!  We also received our Promise Challenge Badge and Faith Activity Badge.

Silver Chief Scout Award

Chloe Curtis received the highest award at Cubs tonight, the Sliver Chief Scout Award. Chloe has managed to complete all of her challenge badges whilst being at Cherokee Cubs. Well done Chloe!  

Laser Quest – Christmas Party 2013

Hessle Scout’s Christmas party at Laser Quest. Some of the Cubs who will be joining us in January came along to join in. Everybody really enjoy themselves we will have to do it again sometime.

Beaver Faith Badge

  On Wednesday 4 December we visited All Saints Church as part of our Faith Activity badge.  We wrote and read out prayers, did a treasure hunt around church, and practiced carrying our flag.

Christingle Service

On Sunday 1 December we went to All Saints Church for the Children’s Society Christingle Service.  We each received a Christingle to take home.  

Blacktoft Beacon District Swimming Gala

Nov 23 saw the return of the Cubs Swimming Gala at Ennerdale sports center in Hull. Most packs in the Blacktoft Beacon District enter a team. This is a hard fought fun competition that covers all aspects of swimming that includes a relay and “The Plunge.” The plunge sees one Cub dive into the pool…

Winter Camp 2013

Every year the Cubs enjoy a winter camp, where the reality of the cold weather sets in. This years the Cubs went to Blackhills Nr Bradford. The Cubs sleep in wooden dormitory because of the temperature. The Cubs still enjoyed the outdoor environment that included the Cubs cooking their own meals outside on open fires….

Rememberance Parade Nov 2013

As a mark of respect Arapaho Cubs joined The Hessle Scout Group as a whole who joined both active & retired members of the armed forces and marched from the British Legion in Hessle to the All Saints Church. The Cubs then attended a civic service that included The Hessle Town Mayor & local councillors.

HARVEST CELEBRATION

Members of the various uniformed organisations, in Hessle, attended the Harvest Service in All Saints’ Church. The congregation donated non-perishable foods during the service. The food will be given to the Homeless and Rootless project in Hull.

KC Home of the Tigers Tour July 2013

June 2013, Dads & Lads Camp

Once a year Arapaho Cubs have a traditional “Dads & Lads” or “Parents & Guardians” Camp. This year we wend to Bramhope Scout Camp (Nr Leeds Bradford Airport). No mums this year but 7 dads did brave the weather. We feel certain the Dads enjoyed the camp more than the Cubs. Both Cubs & Dads…

Pack Night Activities

The Cubs were asked to design & build a device to support an egg being dropped from 10 feet high using paper, cello tape & tooth picks or design & build a bridge to support an egg spanning a12 inch gap using spaghetti & marshmallows. Some where successful & some were not.  

High Ropes May 2013

Once a year the sixer’s (young leader’s & older Cubs) are taken to a camp along with the Scouts & Explorers. The aim of the camp is for the cubs to get to know the Scouts & experience life as a Scout as the sixer’s will be moving up to Scouts soon.

Sixer Camp – 7th – 9th June

This camp is done in conjunction with the Scout Troop. It allows the older cubs who are nearly ready to go up to Scouts to meet and become friends with some of the Scouts before they go. Both Cherokee and Arapaho Cubs were invited. This years Sixer Camp was at High Ropes in Market Rasen….

Group Camp May 2013

Hessle Scout Group holds an annual collective camp where the young people from the 2 cub packs, the Scout troop and the Explorer unit have the opportunity to socialise and participate in activities together.   2013 saw our return to the local site, Raywell. Group Camp – 10th – 12th May

This years Group Camp was held at our local Scout Camp, Raywell Park, and it had a medieval theme. The weekend started with the crusades arriving in camp on Friday night, bearing their flags and tunics, after a hike from Melton Bottom. Tonights meeting started off with a performance by Max and Tom. They played American Idiot by Greenday in order to gain their muscian badges. Well done boys! Afterwards everyone was outside practising putting up the big green Icelandic tents.

A normal Pack Arapaho Cubs promotes Decision Making (the Cubs choose their own games) as opinions are always asked for & discussed with friendships being formed every night.

Music Evenning March 2013

For their music badge the Cubs were asked to bring in & play their musical instrument. We had a wide range of instruments & talents. Even the ones who couldn’t play an instrument joined in and sung along to the tune.
